What kind of dust is needed for testing in a dustproof test chamber?


The mainstream materials used in dustproof test chambers are standard quartz powder (A2 dust), talc, and kaolin, selected according to national standards/IP ratings and military standards.

I. National Standards/IP Ratings (GB/T 4208, GB 2423.37)

- IP5X / IP6X General Standard Dust

- ISO 12103-1 A2 Dust (Quartz Powder)

- Composition: SiO₂ ≥ 99%

- Particle Size: ≤ 75 μm (passes through a 75μm sieve)

- Applications: IP5X, IP6X dustproof ratings, electrical and electronic products, lighting fixtures, enclosure sealing

- Talc (Non-Abrasive)

- Dry, Non-Abrasive, No Explosion Risk

- Particle Size ≤ 75 μm

- Commonly Used: IP5X/IP6X, General Industrial Dust Protection

II. Military Standards (GJB 150.12A)

- Dust Blowing (Fine Dust)

- Quartz Powder: SiO₂ ≥ 97%, particle size ≤ 149 μm

- Sandblasting (coarse sand impact)

- Quartz sand: SiO₂ ≥ 95%, particle size 150~850 μm

III. Other Commonly Used Dust

- Kaolin: Simulates natural dust and soil environment

- Silicate cement: Simulates cement plant and building material environment

- Conductive powder (carbon black/graphite): Specifically for measuring electrical insulation and contact resistance

IV. General Requirements (All Standards)

- Must be dry: Dry at 80℃ for 2 hours, moisture content < 0.5%

- Non-abrasive (dustproof test)

- Particle size: ≤ 75 μm (IP rating)

- Dust reuse: Generally not exceeding 20 times
